Website Trivia

This page is less about Markus, and more about some of the worldbuilding tidbits that went into making his in-character website.

The Bareness

As far as web design goes, Markus's site is probably the easiest thing I've ever done. This was on purpose, since I don't imagine Markus being the kind of person to make his own site all that flashy. The same goes for the content of his site. All his website really is, is a place to host his videogame mods and gush about his new job.

The Games

Since I didn't want to mention any real games with actual modding communities, I made up several games instead. In order to mod a fake game, it helps to know what that game is generally about, so each game has a little synopsis living in my head.

Warheart: Eye of the Storm

For a game in which a shader management mod would be necessary, I was kind of thinking back to Minecraft or The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. In Minecraft particularly, you can make very beautiful landscapes and buildings, but the effect is kinda lost when the lighting looks like crap. So, if Warheart: EotS was real, I imagine it might be like an open-world game where customization of a given area would be possible.

Eventhough "Warheart" would be an intense name for a game with wider home customization options, I think its nicely justified by the "Eye of the Storm" title, given that the eye of the storm is the peaceful part of a tornado.

Soul Network 3

Both of Markus's mods about these games are dialogue heavy, and so, Soul Network 3 would be a very dialogue-heavy game. I imagine it might be like Fire Emblem (because romancable characters), but I've never played FE, so I can't fully attest to SN being like FE.

Battlecell

I imagine Battlecell to be an older movement-based FPS game that was unfortunately held back by its crappy movement. I haven't imagined much else for this game aside from it possibly having a cool, tech-y aeshtetic.

Optima Starship Brigade

OSB would've been another older game in this universe, and I imagine it to be pretty close to the Starfox games, albeit with more flashing lights.

Crystal Zone

What kind of game this one would've been is more nebulous to me. There's nonbinary people in it, though.

Coal Quest

If Coal Quest was a game that needed to have a lot of information in its UI, I imagine it is a game catered towards nerds. Obtaining as much coal as possible is definitely a goal. Maybe it could be like EVE Online, which I hear is mostly a game about spreadsheets.
